The Power of Supporting Each Other
As creatives, we often hear about the importance of supporting each other. We are told that we need to stick together, lift each other up, and collaborate to create a better future for all of us. But why is this so important? What makes supporting each other such a crucial part of success in the creative industry?
Right now, we are seeing the power of support in action as the Writer’s Guild of America is on strike. The strike is a result of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) slashing writer’s compensation and residuals and undermining working conditions. The Writer’s Guild is fighting for a new contract with fair pay that reflects the value of their contributions and includes protections to ensure that writing survives as a sustainable profession.
The strike serves as a reminder of just how important it is for us to support each other. When we stand in solidarity, the universe conspires to bring us more support. Here are some reasons why:
- Unity is Strength: When we support each other, we create a strong, unified front. This makes it more difficult for those who want to undermine our work to do so. Together, we have the power to demand better pay, better working conditions, and a better future for all creatives.
- We Can Learn from Each Other: When we support each other, we open ourselves up to new ideas, perspectives, and techniques. This helps us grow as creatives and develop our skills even further. We can learn from each other’s successes and failures, and use that knowledge to improve our own work.
- Collaboration is Key: Collaboration is a cornerstone of the creative industry. When we support each other, we create opportunities for collaboration that can lead to amazing things. By working together, we can create projects that are greater than the sum of their parts.
- It’s Good for Mental Health: Pursuing a career in the creative industry can be tough. There are plenty of obstacles and setbacks along the way. But when we support each other, we create a sense of community and belonging that can help us navigate those challenges. Having a support system in place can make all the difference.
So how can we support each other? There are plenty of ways. We can attend each other’s shows and events, share each other’s work on social media, offer feedback and critiques, and collaborate on projects. We can also show our support by standing in solidarity with our fellow creatives when they face challenges or setbacks.
In the end, supporting each other is about more than just getting ahead. It’s about creating a better future for all of us. When we support each other, we create a community that is stronger, more resilient, and more creative than ever before. Let’s stand together and create a better world for all creatives.
