“When you live for a strong purpose, then hard work isn’t an option, it’s a necessity.”
-Steve Pavlina

It’s all about the work you put in, my friends. The hours, days, and years you spend on your craft. Yes, the business side is important. You must build relationships with your reps, casting, producers, and directors. You must have excellent headshots that look like you and a reel that shows you off.

But! Without an unbreakable foundation, deeply rooted in the study of the art of acting, one that you’ve spent years, if not decades, honing, everything else is just fluff. Think of it as getting an MBA or a doctorate. You must spend the time and exert the energy, to be the best and most consistent actor you can be.

How does one do this? Take classes from the top people in the field, read every book you can, read the classics, plays, watch all the classic films, read screenplays, watch Inside the Actors Studio, see live theatre…. It’s all part of your course of study if this is truly what you want to do in life. No one is going to force you. No one will check in on you to see that you are doing the work. The desire to learn and create MUST come from within. So next time you find yourself in a rut, look above to the list of amazing ways to better yourself as an artist and choose one! You won’t regret it.
