Embrace Your Uniqueness
“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” – Maya Angelou
“What makes you different or weird, that’s your strength.” – Meryl Streep
Your “isms”, your ticks, your experiences…
Embrace what you bring to the table. Embrace all your isms, your ticks, your experiences–the good and bad.
And it is true what they say, “No one is you and that is your power.” You have a million and one ways that make you different and unique, so no one can ‘play’ a role like you. No one else has had your experiences, or even reacted to these experiences the same exact way. All of our thoughts and feelings are unique to us and us alone. And why wouldn’t this be the same for the character you are playing?
In speaking with many a casting director, they see a hundred actors reenact a scene the same way. It is your job to come with something different and unique. And how do you do that? By using your own uniqueness in your work.
Knowing how to USE your uniqueness
Knowing how to use your unique isms and what we call the Power Pit of your experiences, can help set you apart and stand out in the crowd. Continuous training on these is what will keep you focused, and the knowledge of who you are will expand into other areas of life, not just the craft.
You have something special inside you that no one else has. Use it. Embrace it. Lean into it.
Here at Shari Shaw Studios, it is our mission to help you find those isms and unique qualities that help light up the room. We’re here in a variety of ways and believe in you. Have questions? Simply email us at sharishawactingstudio@gmail.com
